OpenOrder

Use OpenOrder with an AI assistant

OpenOrder answers one question: where should I do this shop? Connect your AI assistant and it can compare your grocery list across the major supermarkets in your country, plan the week’s meals, and hand each store’s share of the shopping to that store’s own cart.

MCP server

OpenOrder runs a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. One address works for every country:

https://www.openorder.bot/api/mcp

  • Transport: streamable HTTP, POST only.
  • Sign-in: OAuth 2.1. Your assistant sends you to OpenOrder’s own consent page; it never sees your password. You need an OpenOrder account.
  • Country: prices are compared for the country of the postcode saved in your OpenOrder settings. Tell your assistant your postcode and it saves it, or save one on your country’s site below.

ChatGPT

Search for OpenOrder in ChatGPT’s plugin directory and install it. Until the listing is published: turn on Developer mode (Settings, Security and login), open Plugins, press + and enter the MCP server address above.

Claude

In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, add a custom connector and enter the MCP server address above. In Claude Code, run:

claude mcp add --transport http openorder https://www.openorder.bot/api/mcp

Then type /mcp, choose openorder and sign in.

Other assistants

Any app that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth can use the same address. Apps without a sign-in flow can use a personal key: sign in on your country’s site and open “Use OpenOrder with AI” in the account menu.

What the tools do

  • list_stores: The supermarkets compared in your country, and which of them trade where you are. A store not listed is not covered.
  • set_postcode: Save your postcode, which sets the country and stores you are priced in.
  • compare_basket: Which store is cheapest for a list of groceries, and what to buy where.
  • search_product: One product's price and unit price at each store.
  • list_recipes: Recipes from your library, by name, tag or ingredient.
  • get_weekly_menu: This week's menu of cheap meals, built around real specials.
  • get_meal_plan: What you have planned for a week.
  • suggest_meals: Ideas for what to cook next, and why each was picked.
  • add_to_plan: Add a recipe to a day of your meal plan.
  • remove_from_plan: Take a meal off your meal plan. Your assistant asks first.
  • set_shop_day: Set the day you do the week's shop, which decides the specials your plan can use.
  • get_shopping_list: The priced shopping list for your meal plan, store by store.
  • get_cart_handoff: The stores' own cart links for your list: split across the cheapest stores, or all at one.

Supermarkets covered

OpenOrder compares only the stores listed here. An assistant should call list_stores rather than rely on this page, and should say so plainly when a store is not covered.

Australia (au.openorder.bot)

  • Woolworths
  • Coles
  • Aldi
  • IGA (NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, SA, ACT & NT)
  • Spudshed (WA only; prices shown, never named cheapest)
  • Harris Farm (NSW, QLD & ACT)

United Kingdom (uk.openorder.bot)

United States (us.openorder.bot)

What an assistant must not do

  • Never ask for or enter a supermarket password, verification code or payment details.
  • Never check out. Cart links open in the shopper’s own browser, where they review the cart and pay themselves.
  • Never quote a price, total or saving the tools did not return.
  • Never name a store as covered unless the tools list it.
